
It was systems on Day One out as 72 school teams set the ball rolling on Sunday on the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival at Prince Edward.

Rugby school children pampered with zeal and zest displayed excellent play in all fields at the Festival with applauses from the fans echoing.Mrs Ranga Chakwenya, Kuwadzana High 1 girls coach commended the Festival as educational and entertaining.”There is great improvement on my girls compared to yester year. They lost by 2 points against Mbare High but they played well”, she said. She also said it was fair play.
Her sentiments were also echoed by Mrs Katambe tambe a Sports Director at Mbare High.”It was fair game .The referees were good and the players played well and we eventually won”, she said. She went on to say, “The Festival is important because most of the time we have attended, we had our girls being for various reasons, it could bet to better school or the national team selection. She also said, “Last year our 2 girls were given scholarships to study at Vainona High School. We also had 2 girls who were selected for national trials under 18 although the other one later transferred to Vainona High School”.
However, although the Festival is not result based some schools are in the habit of cheating. She castigated schools that were fielding pupils from other schools to be victorious.”The challenges here are that some schools are stealing players. I confronted a teacher at Christ Ministries after they had dressed our player and wanted to field her. They tried to cheat. I reported them to the Festival officials”, she said.
