Media mainly online has been awash with reports labeling Chivhayo as a cry baby with others alluding him to a teenager who cannot play soccer but because he is the owner of the ball so he does not want to be substituted. Some journalists and Editors have been lambasting the former Zifa sponsor to the extent of Ministers also pelting on the quiet businessman.
Some newspapers even resorted to tarnish his image as football has a large following and his departure was felt by many. Wicknell Chivhayo managed to break the silence as he posted on Facebook the reason of his departure. The ironic part is that yesterday he was the main actor and today he is an extra.
Chivhayo posted on Facebook , “I will never stoop so low and over react on such a small thing on the expense of the nation but as a well-known person had to do so”. “Others are said to be demanding apologies”, he posted. Last time Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa was fired and later re- employed, he asked for apology for the inconvenience.
Chivhayo said he made the millions on his own so he needs the respect he deserves. “If that reporter and his paper do not apologize for writing a false story where I am performing exceptionally then Zifa will not get even a single cent I promise, never in my life”, read the post.
He went on to say, “If they apologize, as also a mature person, I will forgive them. However having said that once bitten twice shy, I will come with hard cash to the Stadium and I give the players their money after the game and I go.
He blamed politics for gatecrashing on the scene. “I know politicians are afraid of someone who has amassed a lot of recognition. They fear the person may join a rival politician and become a menace to them”, he posted. He revealed that he supports Zanu PF, a hard core member of the party and was not moved by all the negative publicity he is receiving.
Wicknell Chivhayo also posted that he has decided to rush to London and spend the weekend with his sister because he is stressed over with this football issues. He also corrected those misquoting him that he has made a U-turn after he pulled out. “I said the balance over 3 years which is a clever way of saying no more”, he said. He just needs an apology and the ship starts sailing.
