Warriors’ fans back home were glued at television sets supporting the national team and are still hopeful for the Chan title despite their team falling to neighbors Zambia in a Chan opening match on Tuesday in group D.
The Warriors were beaten 1-0 by Zambia through a 58th minute strike by Isaac Chansa in a tournament meant only for local based players in Africa. Warriors’ fans watching the match in beer halls on Super sport said they are still content that Zimbabwe can wake from the slumber and eclipse last year’s achievements by lifting the cup.
In the last edition, 2014 Chan the Warriors under the tutelage of Ian Gorowa lost in the semi finals. A sweeper at Dziva sports bar in Highfield said the Warriors were just unlucky but were not a bad side. “Zambia did not display entertaining football and our guys were only unlucky”. With Mali and Uganda drawing, we still have a chance to proceed in the knockout stages”, he said.
In the previous Chan edition, Zimbabwe beat Mali in the quarter finals and fingers are crossed that such a feat is repeated when the two sides clash on Saturday .Group D comprises of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mali and Uganda.
The draw between Mali and Uganda was a blessing to the Warriors as Zimbabwe will not be far short from points against their rivals in the group.
