VARSITY ATHLETICS SET FOR A BIG WEEK!

Oshawa, Ont. – Varsity sports are in full swing and the UOIT Ridgebacks and Durham Lords are ready for some great games this weekend on Campus. With the hockey and volleyball teams all hosting games this week, fans have a variety of options to get their fill of varsity sports.

Here is a quick look at what the varsity teams are up to this week:

UOIT MEN’S HOCKEY
The Dog Pound will be rocking’ as the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey team has back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night. The Ridgebacks will host the University of Waterloo Warriors on Friday (7:30 p.m.) for Big Brothers Night! The next night, the Blue and White will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (7:30 p.m.). The Ridgebacks will look for the upset on Saturday night as the Golden Hawks are 9-2-1 on the year and are the sixth ranked team in the CIS.

Men’s Hockey Home Games
Fri. Nov. 21 vs. University of Waterloo (7:30 p.m.) – CIC *Big Brothers Night
Sat. Nov. 22 vs. Wilfrid Laurier University (7:30 p.m.) – CIC


UOIT WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Also home this weekend will be the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team. In a rematch of their 2008-09 home opener, the Ridgebacks will take on the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon. Brock will be looking for payback as UOIT defeated the Badgers 3-2 in a shootout! Game time for Saturday is at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Ridgebacks will host the Guelph Gryphons (7:30 p.m.). This will be the first meeting between the two teams, and the third place Gryphons come into the game on a two game losing streak.

Women’s Hockey Home Games
Sat. Nov. 22 vs. Brock University (3:30 p.m.) – CIC
Sun. Nov. 23 vs. University of Guelph (7:30 p.m.) – CIC


DC MEN’S AND WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
On Tuesday night, the Lords will be in action in North York as they take on the Seneca Sting. The team will then return home for a game on Thursday, November 20 against the Loyalist Lancers. The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m. with the men’s serving off at 8 p.m.

Both teams are looking to get into the playoffs and book a spot in the OCAA Championships, set to take place at Durham College from February 27-28, 2009. All fans in attendance on Thursday night will receive a free appetizer courtesy of Boston Pizza. Also, Lords fans are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the DC Volleyball food drive.

Thurs. Nov. 20 vs. Loyalist College (8 p.m.) – CRWC

DC MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Durham College men’s and women’s basketball teams will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Ottawa. The men’s team will play the La Cite Coyotes on Friday night, and then meet up with the undefeated Algonquin Thunder on Saturday. The women’s team will play Algonquin College on Saturday as well. Saturday’s games can be viewed on www.sportslive.ca.
